Lady Gaga became the first to have 9,000,000 people follow her on Twitter, accomplishing the feat sometime at the end of March. As of this writing on April 5, 2011 her up to date count on famecount.com's list of ‘Top Twitter Users, Worldwide’ is 9,212,360.
The 25-year-old singer has been on top since August of 2010 when she pushed past former leader, Brittany Spears. Spears fell on hard times, or on hard Twitter follower times, as in January Justin Bieber also passed her. The often-troubled Spears now sits in 3rd with 7,340,807 Twitter followers. U.S. President Barack Obama is in fourth spot, only about 55,000 followers behind Spears and counting.
Justin Bieber Behind Lady Gaga in Twitter Followers
Bieber, with 8,605,184 followers as of this writing, continues adding more new Twitter followers each day than Lady Gaga does; a check of the graphs at Famecount shows he can get as many as 5,000 more new followers daily. He is gaining but with the release of her newest album, Born This Way, out May 23, Gaga is likely to gain many new Twitter followers.
Bieber’s followers increased after the release of his movie Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, in February of 2011. In a related note the young Canadian leads the world with the most Youtube views. He has over 1.5 YouTube views of his songs, about 150,000 more than Gaga has of hers.
Top Ten on Twitter Follower List
Here’s the top ten: after Obama in 4th place is a recent arrival to the top ten, reality star Kim Kardashian in 5th, followed by Katy Perry in 6th, in 7th place is actor Ashton Kutcher, then talk show host Ellen DeGeneres in 8th, Taylor Swift in 9th and Oprah Winfrey in 10th. Shakira is in 11th and getting about 18,000 new followers every day and may make her way into the top ten in the next few weeks.
Famecount is a website that keeps track of all things social media. Meanwhile Charlie Sheen, the ‘Violent Torpedo of Truth’ whose live show is getting reviews ranging from boos to mediocre, sits in 31st spot and climbing with almost 3 and a half million followers. Sheen is gaining, on average, more than 15,000 new followers each day.
